Conflict in Cities and the Contested State
Everyday life and the possibilities for transformation in Belfast, Jerusalem and other divided cities
Conflict in Cities' is a multidisciplinary research project, begun in 2003. A team from three UK universities is carrying out primary empirical research on Belfast and Jerusalem. The work is supplemented by an international network of academics and practitioners (‘linked city partners’) with expertise on other divided cities and contested states, including Nicosia, Mostar, Berlin, Beirut and Kirkuk.
Conflict in Cities is generously funded by the Economic and Social Research Council of Great Britain. The first two stages of ‘Conflict in Cities’ (2003-07) were supported by the New Security Challenges Programme of the ESRC.
